SQUARE POND

180 X 180

August 2022

Acrylic on Canvas

In Hinduism River Ganges is worshipped as Mother Ganga. The symbolism of Ganges is significant to many Hindus as it’s believed to be the elixir that washes away your sins. Around 100 million Hindus bathe in the Ganges in hopes of cleansing their karmic slate and breaking the cycle of life, death and reincarnation. Ultimately aspiring to achieve salvation or moksha.

In Hindu mythology, River Ganges was once the river that flowed across the sky. This imagery is riveting to me. The idea of a water body floating in space, away from its typical terrain raises so many questions. I have titled it Square Pond as it’s confined within a polished square which is ironical as the subject is a dynamic river. The painting is cultivated and man made like a pond.
